Inclement Weather Planning
For West ISD, the decision to delay the start of school or close school is based on a number of variables including:

• Actual and projected snowfall
• Icing and wind-chill factors
• Ability of the bus fleet to transport students to the campuses
• Ability of teachers, staff, and bus drivers to drive to the campuses (specifically those who live outside the district)
• Assessment of city street and road conditions (specifically in the rural areas of the district)
• Status of power and heat to the campuses

Two-Hour Delay for Monday, January 26, 2026
In reviewing the most current weather reports, West ISD's goal is to give our teachers, staff, students, and families additional time to properly and safely plan for the start of school on Monday, January 26, 2026. To help ensure the teachers, staff, and bus drivers are ready for the transportation and arrival of the students, West ISD will hold a two-hour delayed start. My hope in announcing this two-hour delay early is to give everyone extra time to be ready for Monday morning. 

As a reminder, the two-hour delay means West Elementary School will start the school day at 9:45 AM followed by West Middle and High School at 10:00 AM. All bus route pick up times will shift to the two-hour delay as well. For example, if a bus route pick up time is traditionally at 6:45 AM, the new delayed time will shift to 8:45 AM. 

Please note on Sunday, January 25, 2026, I will review the variables listed above and determine if the two-hour delay needs to be extended to a school closure plan for the entire school day. I will let everyone know the final plan via another Parent Square.

Schedule Changes or Canceled Activities
For tonight, Friday, January 23, 2026, the West High School basketball games versus Whitney High School have changed to the following: Lady Trojans Varsity Game at 4:30 PM followed by Trojans Varsity Game at 5:45 PM; Both games in the West Middle and High School Arena. 

For tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, 2026, the West High School softball scrimmage and power-lifting meet have been canceled. The West Youth League basketball games have also been canceled.
